Carlos, the founder of Asian Musical Instruments, has been for more than 40
years in the music business.

Playing with bands, making records, giving music lessons in schools and private,
making TV performances, playing in music studio's for International bands, doing
research on folk music and musical instruments which were not in use anymore or
were very rare, and much more.

During my work as a researcher for the Belgian Government about musical
instruments which were becoming rare or extinct, I and the band members were
making exact copies of these instruments, based on old paintings (Breughel) or
being produced by some skilled labourers who did learn the profession from father
to son. We made designs of how the musical instruments were made and published
books with old folk songs which were only known by a few older people.

In 1999, I made my first trip to Asia.

Asia had so much attraction on me that I decided in 2000 to settle there.

I learned to know the traditional musical instruments of Asia and played with some
local bands on these instruments. I was amazed how simple and easy they were to
play, yet they offered a warm and typical sound that cannot be described in words.

Unfortunately, most of these local Asian instruments were of a very poor quality
and the materials used to build the musical instruments were not typical for that
musical instrument.

I started a research on the origin of the Asian musical instruments, how they were
build and the location where each of them was produced.

After 8 years of research and collecting valuable information, I decided to open the
company Asian Musical Instruments to offer to everybody the possibility to share
my knowledge about Asian Music and to own an Asian Musical Instrument of top quality.
